It’s an easy way to contribute to a good cause and get something ticked off your to-do list at the same time
If you think about it, the world of weddings could be viewed as a tad selfish. A big celebration of your love with months of planning and a bigger percentage of your wages than you’d dare to calculate. The good news is you can also make difference when saying ‘I do’ thanks to charity wedding favours. Your guests receive a lovely memento and you can alleviate that ‘me me me’ guilt knowing you’ve made a donation to a worthy cause.
So how does it all work, and how can you get involved?
It’s quite straightforward, according to Grace Stokes of the British Heart Foundation. “When you buy your favours from our charity, you are helping to save lives by funding crucial research,” she says. Many charities are dependent on the generosity of the public. “We receive no government or lottery funding,” explains Richenda McLean of the Scottish SPCA. “So without donations from our supporters, we could not help the thousands of animals we rescue and rehome every year.”
There are lots of different kinds of charity favour to choose from. “Our range includes donation place cards, pin badges, bubbles, pens, wristbands and wildflower seeds,” says Grace. “Each year we receive around a thousand orders for our wedding favours,” she adds. “It’s just a simple step, but it makes a huge difference to us.”
Worried charity favours will look a bit, well, worthy? Don’t be. The Scottish SPCA has a particularly sweet collection of badges that your guests will fall in love with. “It’s hard to resist our unbelievably cute pin badges featuring a puppy, kitten, hedgehog or paw print,” smiles Richenda.
“With donations we’re able to rescue animals in danger and distress, find them new homes, investigate cruelty, help take people responsible for cruelty to court and prevent cruelty through our free education programmes for Scottish schools.”
